Week 13: Results

The final event of the season was just all the others, an incredibly fun night of golf in perfect conditions. Congratulations to the team of Lorms, J. Barrett, R. Gillie and Spencer with a net score of 77 (-3) in the Lone Wolf Best Ball All Balls on Nine event. Also, congrats to Max Palleschi (2 net skins) and Doug May (1 net skin).

With sunset now at 8PM, we have simply run out of time to get four groups through nine holes. Accordingly, our 2020 weeknight season has come to a close. However, the last I checked we are still allowed to play golf on the weekends! And, as it turns out, we have a long weekend coming up! So . . . . who would like to play in an 18 hole event on Labor Day at Raymond, one week from today? Please respond ASAP. I will lock down consecutive tee times in the early afternoon once I have a sufficient number of committed players. We'll come up with a good pot game (or maybe a different one for each side).

Lorms, J. Barrett, R. Gillie, Spencer: - 77 (-3)

D. May, Benack, DiFrangia, Stang: - 78 (-2)

G. May, Underwood, Paleschi, S. Gillie: - 82 (+2)

Osborn, Stein, Carter, Lee - 86: (+6)

Week 13: Format, Pairings and Tee Times

Well, here we are at what might be our last official event of the season. It's hard to believe that it has already been nearly 4 months since we started this league. I'm sure you will agree that it has been worthwhile, fun, and memorable. We will definitely be doing it again next year. Same place, same night (Tuesdays), same pizza afterward (Sparano's!)

But that's a discussion for a cold winter day. For now, we have one more week and we have come up with a format that will sufficiently blow your mind. This is yet again a Best Ball event that we will call Lone Wolf All Balls On 9 ("LoWABON"). This will be a 4-man team winner-take-all event. Players were seeded into four flights based on handicaps and teams were selected as follows: Seed #'s 1/8/9/16 are a team  . . . Seed #'s  2/7/10/15 are a team, etc. The pot will be $120 and there will be a $40 net skins pot. Here are the rules:

  • Prior to teeing off on the first hole, each team will assign a player a number from 1 thru 4. The player designated as #1 will be the Lone Wolf on holes #1 and #5. The player designated #2 will be the Lone Wolf on holes #2 and #6. The player designated #3 will be the Lone Wolf on holes #3 and #7. The player designated #4 will be the Lone Wold on holes #4 and #8.
  • The team score on each hole will be the total net scores of the Lone Wolf for that hole and the Best net score of the other 3 players. For example, on Hole #2, Andy makes a 5 for a net 4. His teammates record the following scores: Evan makes a 4 for 3, Rob makes a 6 for 5, and Scott makes a 4 for 2. The team score would be 6 (Andy's net 4 and Scott's net 2).
  • And in the words of Chubby Checker, "Let's do the Twist!"  On the 9th hole, the team score is the total of all four players' net scores.
  • Putt everything out unless it is inside the leather.

5:30PM - DiFrangia (2), Stang (6), D. May (7), Benack (13)

5:40PM - Osborn (3), Stein (6), Lee (7), Carter (12)

5:50PM - G. May (3), Underwood (5), S. Gillie (9),  Palleschi (10)

6:00PM - Lorms (4), Spencer (4), R. Gillie (9), J. Barrett (10)

SECOND UPDATE: The pairings have been adjusted due to substitution. Solis is out and Joe Barrett is IN. Stein was out, but now he is back IN (apologies to M. Barrett).

Week 12: Results

Congratulations to Scott and Rob Gillie who dominated the Week 12 event. Remember when I said I didn't think we could come up with an event where teams could go lower? The Gillie Bros were net 4 under after the first hole! and cruised to a winning score of 11 under. In doing so, they helped the event live up to it's appointed name, Balls Deep. Eleven under for 9 holes is extremely DEEP! Expect this format to make a return next year if for no other reason so that Doug and I can have a rematch. Here are the results from Week 12:

1. S. Gillie/R. Gille (-11)

2. Benack/Stang (-6)

3. Underwood/Spencer (-5)

3. DiFrangia/Palleschi (-5)

3. J. Barrett/M.Barrett (-5)

6. G. May/D. May (-4)

7. Solis/Osborn (-1)

8. Lee/Carter (E)

Week 12: Format, Pairings and Tee Times

Welcome to Week 12, where we continue to stretch the boundaries of the Best Ball. This week the format is set up for teams to go low. Possibly very low. In fact, this might be as low as we can go. Teams will play a traditional Best Ball, meaning the team score is the best single net score on each hole. But . . . wait for it . . . here's the twist. (There's always a twist!) If a team has more than one score that is under par on a hole they get to use both of them to calculate their score in relation to par.

Here is an example. On the par 4 fourteenth hole, Max makes a 5 for a net 3 and Johnny makes a 4 for a net 3. Their team would be net 2 under on this hole instead of just one under if only one score was being counted. We will call this game Low Balls Balls Deep. The teams were not randomly selected.

5:30PM - J. Barrett/M. Barrett and Stang/Benack

5:40PM - DiFrangia/Palleschi and Solis/Osborn

5:50PM - G.May/D.May and S.Gillie/R.Gillie

6:00PM - Spencer/Underwood and Lee/Carter

UPDATE: The pairings and tee times have been adjusted to substitution and the fact that Joe Barrett and Mike Barrett had to be paired together. Well, they didn't have to be, but it made sense.

Week 11: Results

Congratulations to Scott Lee and Rob Burkley for winning the Week 11 pot game with a score of 50 (six under). In second place was the team of Doug May/Josh Stein with a 54. Close but no cigar  . . . , well, in 3rd place anyway was the team of Greg May and Max Palleschi at 55. Give it up for Uncle Max, who shot 47/34 and won the only two skins for the night.

Week 11: Format, Pairings and Tee Times

I apologize for the last minute notice but we had quite a time finding subs today due to last-minute sub requests. The format tonight will be a Modified Best Ball. It will be just like last week . . . wait for it  . . . with a twist. The twist is this week you will count both net scores on par 4's and select the best net score on par 3's and par 5's. Last week was AC. This is DC.

For those about to rock, here are the pairings and tee times:

530PM - G.May (2)/Palleschi (13) and DiFrangia (2)/Gillie (8)
5:40PM - D.May (7)/Stein (4) and Solis (3)/Stelzer (4)
5:50PM - Lee (7)/Burkley (2) and Lorms (3)/Carter (10)
6:00PM - Underwood (4)/Brinkman (3) and J. Barrett (7)/M. Barrett (5)

Go Jackets!

Week 10: results

Congratulations to the teams of John Solis/Faisal Aziz and John DiFrangia/Brad Underwood for shooting scores of 51, which tied for first place in Week 10's Modified Best Ball competition. Golfers used their best net score on par 4's, but had to count both player's net scores on par 3's and par 4's. The winning teams will receive $30 per player for the effort. In the net skins competition, there was a single skin and that was won by Doug May for a smooth $40.

Solis/Aziz - 51

DiFrangia/Underwood - 51

D. May/Stein - 53

Lorms/Barrett - 54

Spencer/Palleschi - 54

Lee/Carter - 57

Stang/Osborn - 61

G. May/Benack - 62
