Week 5: Format, Pairings and Tee Times

Welcome to Week 5! Here's where things get interesting. One idea that Doug and I had coming into this league was to use a format called Quota (also known as Dogfight or Target). It is very similar to Stableford scoring. In Quota, points are awarded for your gross score on a hole as follows:
  • 1 point for bogey
  • 2 points for par
  • 4 points for birdie
  • 8 points for eagle
  • 16 points for double-eagles or less
Each week, players are given quotas or "point targets" to achieve. These quotas are used to track scores instead of handicaps in this format. The player's quota is calculated using what that player shot for their previous round played only. For example, if a player with a quota of 8 had 3 pars, 3 bogeys and 3 "others" they would earn 9 points and would finish +1. Their overall score is irrelevant. Plus numbers are better than negative numbers in Quota golf. Like most everything in this league, it's the opposite of what you are used to!

For Week 5, we will play a Team Total Quota event. If player A finishes +4 and Player B finishes -2, the team total Quota score would be a +2. We think you will enjoy this format. It rewards good play but doesn't penalize a player (or a team) for a blowup hole here and there.

Here are the pairings and tee times for Week 5. The number in parentheses next to each player's name is their individual quota number for this event.

  • 5:50PM - Burkley (6)/Solis (7) and G. May (6)/Paleschi (2)
  • 6:00PM - Lorms (11)/Benack (2) and Osborn (9)/Stein (8)
  • 6:10PM - Lee (7)/J. Barrett (5) and Underwood (4)/R. Gillie (4)
  • 6:20PM - D. May (8)/Stang (7) and Shanahan (3)/Bogan (5)
UPDATE:  The above pairings have been adjusted to insert Jamey Stang and Pat Shanahan as last-minute subs for J. DiFrangia and E. Spencer.
